I. Thompson, I'm tempted to revert your new edits as they seem unclear or of doubtful significance. Specifically:
Why do you say "Despite" (opening etc.)? You say it "emerged as one" -emerged as what? What is the relevance or connection with the Kingsgate project?
What is the relevance of the last 8 years in regard to units which have been filled? Are you saying that something significant happened then which resulted in a significant number of vacant units being filled? If so, what was it that happened? It's unclear if you're saying the Bank of Scotland unit is still one of the few vacant units or is now no longer vacant.
Can you clarify these please? Mutt Lunker 00:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Anchor Stores
[edit]Anchor stores tend to be major department or supermarket stores of over 3,000 sq m located in major shopping developments. Examples include John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks & Spencers, BHS, Dunnes Stores, Primark, TJ Hughes, Big W, Matalan and TK Maxx, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, ASDA, Waitrose and Co-Op.
The 4 anchor stores you refer to in the Mercat Centre are all smaller format stores of major brands, all are under 3,000 sq m in size and a general Woolworths Store is not normally considered as an anchor store, Big W are their anchor format. Is it therefore accurate to call these anchor stores, are they not just key or important stores in the town centre? The only store in Kirkcaldy town centre that would officially qualify as an anchor store is Tesco in the Postings.
Just a thought...
